Homemade blueberry lemonade
A simple and refreshing recipe for homemade blueberry lemonade. Sweetened with sugar or honey, plus tart lemons and fresh blueberries, you’ll never want to buy lemonade in the store again.
Store-bought soda is often loaded with too much sugar and fizz, crazy huh? Sugar-reduced or sugar-free drinks are in the minority in the field of soft drinks, because we want to eliminate sugar intake for biscuits, cakes and tarts. But since we are able to control the amount of sugar ourselves with homemade lemonades, I am happy that I can serve this lemonade to my family without a guilty conscience. I would even say that this lemonade is actually a bit good for us. Yeah!

That’s it, 4 simple ingredients. Cook the syrup – until the blueberries burst and release their delicious juice, then top off with your sweetener of choice, lemon juice and top up with sparkling mineral water and enjoy. The beauty of this recipe is that you can make it exactly how you want it. I prefer a lemonade that’s more tart than sweet. want it sweeter Add more sugar or honey. Do you want it more acidic? Add a little more lemon juice. You could even swap out the blueberries for another berry.
Note: For the sodas pictured, I strained the blueberry syrup to remove any solids. This results in a nicer, less hazy end product. When I serve this lemonade to guests in our restaurant, the syrup is passed through a sieve. But when I’m making them for my family, I often skip the strainer step, do a one-shot in the brew with an immersion blender* and leave those little tiny bits of blueberry skin – “Hello, nutrients and antioxidants!”. It’s delicious either way!
Tip: This is a mildly sweet lemonade. If you want it extra sweet, increase the sugar. For a sugar-free version, simply use honey (which also goes well with the blueberry note) or agave syrup.
Don’t forget to save a few extra blueberries and lemon wedges for garnish. You’ll love sipping on this sweet and refreshing blueberry lemonade.
Sparkling blueberry lemonade - pure refreshment
- 240 ml water
- 120 G sugar
- 300 G blueberries fresh or frozen
- 160 ml lemon juice
- 1 L carbonated mineral water cold
- lemon slices
- ice cubes
- Drinking straw*
- Pick and rinse fresh blueberries.
- Slowly bring the water with the sugar and the blueberries to a boil in a saucepan. Simmer gently for four minutes. Stir occasionally to allow the sugar to dissolve and the blueberries to burst open to release their delicious juice.
- Remove the pot from the stove, let it cool down a bit and pass the syrup through a sieve.
- Add lemon juice and let cool.
- To serve, mix the syrup with about 2 parts cold mineral water.
- In addition, you can use ice cubes, leftover fresh blueberries and fresh mint for serving and decoration.
